Mary’s first day of dance camp was today. On the way over to the school I gave her my cell phone number so she could reach me if she needed to.
I got a call at around 1 pm.
Me: Hello
Mary: Hi Mom. I need character shoes and a character skirt.
Me: You NEED these… for camp?
Mary: yes, You can buy them at Ellman’s.
Me: ok bye.
Mary:bye mom.
I hung up the phone and began having a small panic attack. How was I going to explain this suprise purchase to my husband? This small attack became a HUGE one after checking the Ellman’s website… Character shoes start at $41…. Character skirts start at $26.
I proceeded to freak out all the way to the ballet school to pick her up. My plan was to ask the teachers (if indeed she NEEDED these things) if there were some at the school she could borrow. First how ever I asked my daughter… Who told her she NEEDED these… the anwser NOONE. She wanted them because some of her friends had taken Character over the summer session and had the shoes and skirts.
I think we need a refresher course on NEEDS vs WANTS.
